If it's time to put a price on your used vehicle--or you're just curious about it's value--chances are you're looking for a resource that can help you research the right price. Kelley Blue Book is the industry favorite, known among most folks as the best book for determining the value of a used car. So how do you find it?

You can purchase the print book, or you can access the book for free at their website, www.kbb.com. Once there, you'll need to determine if you want a new car's price or a used car's price.

Choose "used," and you'll have to enter your zip code. After that, you'll be taken to a page where you choose your vehicle's year, make and model.

You can then decide which value you want quoted for you. The Trade-In Value is the amount you can expect a dealer to give you for your car if you offer it as a "trade-in" when you purchase another car from that dealer. The Private Party Value is the amount you can expect to receive if you sell your car privately. The Suggested Retail Value is the price a dealer is likely to put on your car if he/she sold it through their car lot.

After choosing which value you'd like, you'll need to pick out more specifics about your car, such as the type of trim and mileage. You'll also need to designate if your vehicle has extras, such as power locks, cruise control, side air bags, sun roof, and more.

After picking your "extra equipment" options, you'll need to determine your car's condition. "Excellent" means your car looks like it's brand new. "Good" means there are no major problems with your car. "Fair" means your car has either minor mechanical or cosmetic problems. "Poor" means the car has some major problems.

Once you choose your car's condition, you'll be taken to a page with the value. Afterwards, the website offers even more options, such as links to local listings for similar vehicles.
